Another prestigious order for NMV Group

NMV Group manufactures customized vehicles for steelworks and smelters, under the trademark Kiruna Utility Vehicles. In a new order by the smelter Boliden Harjavalta in Finland, another Slag Hauler SH60 has been ordered. This will be the second, in a total of four Slag Haulers, being produced for Boliden. So far, all Haulers has been exported.

The SH60 is a large custom-built truck for smelters. The truck is designed, developed and built, by all departments of NMV Group in Kiruna, Luleå and Piteå.

– The SH60 is a piece of high-tech, advanced industrial machinery. Each and every order helps us maintain and develop the vehicle knowledge we have in Kiruna and Norrbotten. We are also creating local job opportunities and tax income, contributing to the Swedish exports, states Niklas Pääjärvi, co-owner at NMV Group.

At the moment, there is another SH60 being manufactured for Pentti Hämeenaho Oy, which is a contractor at SSAB’s smelter in Brahestad Finland.

-New for this truck, is that we have brought home production from abroad to Norrbotten, states Mikael Pudas, VD at NMV Group. Long and unpredictable supply chains has lately raised awareness and interest in local production, at customers and suppliers in the industry.

Almost four years ago, Boliden Harjavalta bought its first SH60 which they are very satisfied with. Thanks to this, NMV Group has again been chosen to deliver a new truck. The order value is a significant part of the annual revenue. Furthermore, this job keeps many internals as well as external colleagues at work in Kiruna and Norrbotten.

Mikael Mäkelä at MM Elmek & Service in Kiruna, who is specializing in automation for mobile machinery, has been and will still be a part of the Slag Hauler production.

– This vehicle being custom-built from the ground up makes it very special and can be compared to a puzzle of over 1000 pieces that needs planing, development and assembly. A big job that requires competent contributors, states Mikael Mäkelä.
